Explorers from different eras and ages had made the bold move to get to the unknown areas of the world to share with us stories and tales of places we did not normally see. Travelers of different colors and nationalities have been telling us the nice adrenaline rush and experience to be in distant shores and lands.
We have heard how well traveling makes one to gain a lot wider perspective in life. While it takes courage to explore; open-mindedness to travel; it takes more than just those when you decide to move to a certain place that is far from your place of comfort. This can be said to thousands of American expats who are moving to Mexico every year.
There is no question about the fact that Mexico is such a beautiful place. But what is really in Mexico to be a favorite place of destination for retiring Americans? Well, a lot of theories can be made to that such as the accessibility of that country from ours and the strong cultural connection between our peoples. But it is easier to try to crack this question with the reasons why people go to San Miguel in Allende, Mexico. The town has been recently adjudged as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
San Miguel used to be a pretty sleepy town in Mexico before the American veterans of World War II was given grants to stay for vacation or even to take up classes in San Miguel. It proved to be a life-changing privilege for the American vets as they started to come in droves with their whole family and decided that moving to Mexico was an interesting alternative to the lives that they used to have. In no time, San Miguel has become a haven for American expats of different ages and dispositions in life.
It is simplistic to posit that Americans are there in Mexico for one reason; it is really a combination of many reasons. For one, there is no way that one will not be able to fall in love with the great weather of San Miguel on a yearly basis. It is also a great source of inspiration for creative people such as writers, researchers and artists because of the presence of vintages from the towns colonial past. You can witness a lot of beautiful architectures and old houses that have stood the test of time in Mexico, particularly in the town of Allende.
More than anything, though, it is the unique atmosphere in San Miguel that has convinced many Americans to keep on moving to Mexico. There is a sense of being in-the-moment because you are dealing with real people who calls you by your name and somehow really knows you for who you are. This is a far different life of busy lifestyle and getting on deadlines that we are used to have in the American cities. Time moves slow in San Miguel making you ponder on the far greater and more important aspects of our respective lives.
