Often we equate home as something where we are born in. The definition of home has somehow been transformed through the passing of time. It is possible that our home is even far from our country of origin. It is also possible that we have never been to our home yet and we are still seeking for it.

This is perhaps one of the explanations to provide for the widespread Diaspora that has been happening in different countries throughout the years. It is also no wonder that thousands of Americans have made the bold decision of retiring in Mexico. The logical question now is: what is in Mexico to be a popular retirement destination to scores of Americans?

We should take a moment to ponder on the little history of San Miguel in the town of Allende, Mexico. After World War II, the American veterans were given the privileges to enjoy vacation or enroll at the educational institutions in San Miguel. After their sponsored stay, many of them opted to stay in that little Mexican town. In a documentary I saw about this social phenomenon in San Miguel, some of the people interviewed said that they have learned to love the feel of the town for all its grandeur and worth. One even said that it is almost a surreal like experience to live and spend their remaining days in Mexico.

There is no doubt that Mexico is such a lovely and beautiful place. There is no comparison to it in almost anywhere. And for practical reasons, Mexico is very accessible to the U.S. It is also a plus that the U.S. and Mexico have shared a common history together. There are constant air flights to and from Mexico as well that gets you back to your American city in an hour or two.

Aside from the practical reasons, it is also a good option to be retiring in Mexico because the place is relaxing and way different than what you have been used to in America. It is the peculiar warmth and hospitality of the Mexican people as well that makes it an enticing place to live. The small town feel also jibes well with the feeling of serenity and peace in a place that you can call home.

If you seek to enjoy occasional vacations in that country, Mexico does not come out poorly as well. It has pristine beaches and outdoor adventures that are second to none. In other words, Mexico is no way a dull place as well if you want to enjoy occasional luxuries.

Some individuals who are now vacationing or retiring in Mexico are artists, writers and researchers. They have certainly made the right choice to push their chosen profession to new heights because Mexico is such a wonderful and conducive place for study, research and inspiration. Who will not be so inspired when you have closer touch to nature in a peace place with less cars and skyscrapers? Indeed, many have already made the choice of choosing Mexico as their home. You can do the same, too.
