Vaporizers are devices that are used to produce vapor of herbal products. It can also be used to produce steam and mist. Generally the herbs that are vaporized include therapeutic herbs, medicinal herbs and may also include tobacco or cannabis.

Vaporizers are used for anesthesia as well. However, this article is strictly for vaporizers for medicinal purposes. Instead of burning the herbs, vaporizers heat the herbs to extract the vapor from it. Burning as it happens in case of smoking any herb or tobacco, releases harmful oxides (including nitrous oxide and carbon monoxide) while when you boil herb or steam it, and the harmful vapors are automatically filtered in the water.

Vapor thus produced from a vaporizer can be inhaled directly through a pipe or a tube. There can also be intermediate filter fitted in the pipe or the tube in the form of cold water. Vaporizers are a better alternative to the traditional smoking options. Medicinal values of vaporizers have been reiterated again and again.

Hands free vaporizers are generally vertical vaporizers with a simple switch to control the on and the off. There is also a knob to control the temperature of the boiling water used to steam the herb. Newly launched, these vaporizers are also called "volcano" style vaporizers. The hands free vaporizers come with spare screens and wands to change the screens and stir the water. There are also stirrers provided that you can use to stir the boiling herbs to enhance the aroma.

While using hands free vaporizers, follow these instructions:

Allow the vapor box to heat up for five minutes.
Grind the herb in a grinder and place it in the glass bowl.

Do not overload with herb. You need enough space for the vapor to rise. Maintain the suggested optimum level.

Take a trial puff to see whether the material (herb) has darkened or not. If it has then you must reduce the temperature a bit.

Inhaling too fast is advised against as it may burn off the herbs too fast.

Cleaning a hands free vaporizer is very important. You must clean off all residues from the vaporizer. Collect the boiled material in plastic packet and dispose it off. Clear the used water. Do not let residue stay in the bowl nor the water as these may affect the heating coil adversely.

Stirring the water while puffing helps in equal distribution of heat across the bowl. You may also choose to experiment by rotating the vaporizer.

While experimenting with herbs and material do remember that the moisture content of the material, the amount of the material, the size and length of the glass bowl and the glass tube are the factors to consider.

There are many hands free vaporizer available in the market today. The most popular ones are:

Volcano Vaporizer
Vapir Air One 5.0 Vaporizer
Evolution v7 Vaporizer
Natural Goods Vaporizer Standard
Hot Box Vapors Vaporizers
VaporWarez VaporCannon 4G
