They are notorious for introducing a variety of fees which can take a well managed account into an out of control account in a matter of time. One of the first things a person should understand about them is to shop around and find the best rates. They want to find low interest rates with limited fees.
One of the worst things about having cards is people do not look at them as money. These cards should be used as a person would their bank account or cash money. If they simply can not afford something then they should not buy them. However, it is not always that easy. Many people use these cards for emergency situations when they do not have the cash on hand to cover it. This is fine, but it is important to ensure that the credit card is paid off promptly. The charges and fees on an outstanding balance can really add up.
